MRS Corlay Cameroon has donated essential relief materials to the Nigeria High Commission in Cameroon to support vulnerable Nigerians, including citizens in correctional facilities and displaced persons in the country’s North and North-West regions.
The donation forms part of the High Commission’s humanitarian and consular outreach programme aimed at monitoring the welfare of Nigerians in difficult circumstances, providing assistance to citizens in need and extending support to displaced members of the Nigerian community.
The intervention underscores the role of private-sector organisations in complementing diplomatic efforts to protect citizens’ welfare and provide humanitarian assistance beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Presenting the items on behalf of the company’s management, the Regional Delegate of MRS Corlay Cameroon, Mrs. Ngono Epse Yabit Bankoue, described the initiative as a laudable humanitarian effort and expressed the company’s pleasure in contributing to the programme.
She said the donation reflected MRS Corlay Cameroon’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, while commending the Nigeria High Commission for its continued engagement in addressing the needs of vulnerable Nigerians living in Cameroon.
Responding, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigeria High Commission, Ambassador Sani Umar Jibrilla, thanked the company’s management for supporting the humanitarian initiative and partnering with the diplomatic mission to assist Nigerians facing challenging circumstances.
Jibrilla commended MRS Corlay Cameroon for its generosity and called on other Nigerian-owned companies operating in Cameroon to emulate the gesture by contributing to similar humanitarian programmes.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration between businesses and diplomatic institutions in improving the welfare of citizens who require assistance while living outside their home country.
The donated materials include foodstuffs, clothing, toiletries, mattresses, blankets, school bags, sanitary products, groundnut oil, soaps and other essential household supplies.
The items are expected to help address some of the immediate needs of vulnerable Nigerians, particularly those facing hardship and requiring practical support.
The outreach reflects the broader responsibilities of diplomatic missions in maintaining contact with citizens abroad, monitoring their welfare and facilitating assistance where necessary. For Nigerians experiencing difficult circumstances in Cameroon, such interventions can provide essential relief while reinforcing the importance of consular engagement.
MRS Corlay Cameroon is one of the Nigerian-owned multinational companies operating in the Central African country. The company is active in the petroleum and energy sector and, under the leadership of its Managing Director, Amédée Assomo, has been pursuing business development and operational recovery efforts to strengthen its presence in the Cameroonian market.
Its participation in the High Commission’s humanitarian programme highlights how businesses can extend their contributions beyond commercial activities to support the welfare of fellow citizens.
The donation also presents an example of corporate citizenship for Nigerian enterprises operating across Africa, demonstrating how private-sector resources can complement the work of diplomatic missions and other stakeholders addressing humanitarian needs.
Stronger partnerships between businesses, diplomatic institutions and community organisations can help mobilise resources for vulnerable populations while promoting solidarity among Nigerians living abroad.
Naija Diaspora Magazine was present at the event to document the initiative and highlight the contribution of Nigerian-owned businesses to humanitarian support and community welfare across the diaspora.
The magazine’s coverage brings attention to the importance of private-sector participation in initiatives that directly affect Nigerians abroad, particularly those experiencing hardship or displacement.
MRS Corlay Cameroon’s intervention represents a practical contribution to the High Commission’s humanitarian outreach and reinforces the value of cooperation in addressing the needs of vulnerable Nigerians.
The initiative further highlights the potential for Nigerian businesses operating internationally to combine economic participation with social responsibility, helping strengthen community ties and support fellow citizens in their host countries.
