The send-forth ceremony, held at the residence of the Nigeria High Commission in Yaounde on October 25, 2023, was a remarkable affair. Dignitaries from both nations, including the Representative of the Cameroon Minister of Foreign Affairs, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and the Consul General of Nigeria in Buea, came together to honor Ambassador Olonisakin’s exceptional legacy.
In his heartfelt speech, Ambassador Olonisakin expressed gratitude to former President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing him as an Ambassador following his retirement as Chief of Defense Staff in Nigeria. He also praised President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in the new government. With deep sincerity, Ambassador Olonisakin emphasized the importance of dedication, loyalty, and commitment in making a difference in the service of one’s fatherland. He expressed his appreciation for the excellent working relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon, extending his gratitude to President Paul Biya for a very symbiotic relationship. Ambassador Olonisakin’s parting words resonated with the audience, as he highlighted the peak in Cameroon-Nigeria relations and urged the over 4 million Nigerians in Cameroon to uphold lawfulness and sustain the cordial relations between both countries.
Cameroon’s President, Paul Biya, added to the honors by conferring the rank of Grand Officer of the National Order of Valour upon Ambassador Olonisakin during a state dinner. This recognition underscored the invaluable work he did to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Cameroon and Nigeria, leaving an indelible mark on diplomatic history.
Throughout his life, Ambassador Olonisakin has lived calmly and symbolically, demonstrating exemplary leadership since his days as Chief of Defense Staff from July 2015 to January 2021.
