In a profound gesture of unity and solidarity, the Mayor of Douala City Council, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, embarked on a significant outreach visit to several Muslim communities in Wouri on Saturday, March 22, 2025. This visit, which included stops at the chieftaincies of New-Bell Congo, New-Bell Haoussa, Bamoun, Bonaberi, Makèpè-Misokè, Bonaloka, and Newton Aéroport, was aimed at strengthening communal ties and expressing support for the Muslim faithful as they observed the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan, a sacred period of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection, holds deep significance for Muslims across the world. As the fasting period drew to a close, Dr. Mbassa Ndine’s visit served as a reminder of the shared values of peace, togetherness, and social cohesion that unite the people of Douala. His presence among the communities underscored the city’s commitment to fostering harmony and reinforcing the spirit of interfaith unity in Cameroon.
In addition to his visit, the Mayor presented symbolic donations of essential food items to the communities, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to inclusion and social welfare. These provisions were not just material gifts but also a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, reminding the Muslim faithful that they are valued members of the broader Douala community.
“During Ramadan, we reflect on compassion, generosity, and community support. This is our way of expressing love and unity, reinforcing the message that we are one people, bound by the same aspirations for peace and prosperity,” the Mayor stated.
Beyond the donations, Dr. Mbassa Ndine took the opportunity to encourage Muslim leaders and faithful to continue praying for the peace, progress, and prosperity of Douala and Cameroon as a whole. Recognizing the pivotal role of faith in nation-building, he emphasized the need for continued prayers, unity, and collective action to foster development.
The Muslim leaders expressed deep appreciation for the Mayor’s gesture, acknowledging it as a reaffirmation of the strong intercommunal relationships that exist within Douala. “This visit is not just about food donations; it is about inclusion, respect, and shared humanity,” remarked one of the community representatives.
Dr. Mbassa Ndine’s initiative is part of a broader vision of inclusive governance, where all communities—regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds—feel recognized and valued. By reaching out to the Muslim communities during Ramadan, he has once again demonstrated leadership that prioritizes unity, peace, and mutual respect.
As Douala continues to grow as an economic and cultural hub in Cameroon, acts like this reinforce the importance of building bridges across diverse communities. The Mayor’s visit serves as a powerful reminder that the true essence of leadership lies in fostering togetherness, understanding, and support for all citizens.
For the Muslim communities of Wouri, this Ramadan will be remembered not just for fasting and prayers but for a reaffirmation of solidarity and shared humanity—values that continue to shape Douala’s identity as a city of peace and inclusivity.
