Nigerian music sensation Tems has broken new ground, becoming the first African woman to join the ownership group of a Major League Soccer (MLS) team. The Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated artist is now a part-owner of San Diego FC (SDFC) through her company, The Leading Vibe.
Tems, known for her unique sound and global influence, is excited about this new venture. “Football has a way of bringing people together, and I’m excited to help build something special in San Diego,” she said.
SDFC Chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour welcomed her to the club, highlighting her ability to connect with new audiences and strengthen ties with sub-Saharan Africa through the Right to Dream initiative. CEO Tom Penn also praised her commitment to empowering young talent, saying her values align with the club’s mission.
Tems joins a star-studded lineup of SDFC Club Partners, including actress Issa Rae, World Cup champion Juan Mata, former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and MLB star Manny Machado.
Her involvement is part of a collaboration with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm. As a result, Tunde Folawiyo and Kwamena Afful of Pave Investments will also join the club’s ownership group, aiming to enhance the impact of Right to Dream Academy and SDFC in uplifting communities through sports.
From dominating the music charts to making history in sports, Tems continues to inspire on and off the field.
