Could you kindly introduce yourself?

I am Nfor Dairo Bungansa from Ndu Fons’s palace, Donga Mantung division, the north west province of Cameroon.

What motivated your decision to initiate a food business in Nigeria, transitioning from Cameroon?

I come from a family with exceptional culinary skills, sharing a profound passion for cooking. I had not realized the potential of earning from cooking until a person from Douala ignited the idea. He enlightened me about offering cooking and grilling services at events for payment, rather than free. This sparked the establishment of my fish business in Douala, Cameroon. My clientele largely comprised Nigerians. Observing their fervent enjoyment while dining, I inquired whether grilled dishes were less common in Nigeria. They encouraged me, affirming Nigeria’s potential for remarkable profit. One day, I got a call from Obi Cubana, leading to my Nigerian venture. We collaborated to establish Ibiza, later pursuing my own path while maintaining our connection.

Do you infuse Cameroonian essence into your Nigerian culinary dishes?

I primarily prepare authentic Cameroonian dishes. For grilling, some Nigerians familiar with Cameroonian cuisine request it, but to cater to diverse tastes, I created the “Sentimental Sauce” and an alternative grilling style for Nigerians. We offer both strict Cameroonian cuisine and the Nigerian standard. My signature remains the Cameroonian standard, although.

Dealing with local suppliers and vendors in Nigeria can be challenging; how do you manage these relationships as a Cameroonian?

In life, creating a distinct impact is crucial. By doing so, you won’t have to seek people; they’ll seek you. This is my approach.

As a Cameroonian, what has been the profitability of your Nigerian venture, and how do you relate with the locals?

I express my gratitude to Nigeria and its people. They embraced me wholeheartedly, treating me as one of their own. In fact, if I didn’t disclose my nationality, it would go unnoticed. My fondness for Nigeria is profound. Their unyielding support, both financially and for my business, has been exceptional. The camaraderie is profound, and I pray for Nigerians daily.

What guidance would you provide to fellow Cameroonians considering business endeavors in Nigeria?

My counsel is to approach new countries, including Nigeria, with humility. Not implying my compatriots lack this trait, I believe humility paves the way for others to seek you out, guiding you to your rightful place. Had I not embraced humility, Nigerians might not have embraced me and extended their association

As he shared anecdotes from his culinary journey, it is evident that his love for food extends beyond the mere act of cooking, encompassing a deep-seated desire to bridge cultural gaps and foster a greater appreciation for the diversity of flavors that unite us all.
