Yoruba Royalty Meets Presidential Grace: Historic Gathering in Accra Bridges Cultures and Strengthens Ties

On Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, Accra witnessed a rare display of cultural diplomacy, heritage, and unity as the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, graciously received His Royal Majesty Oba Mufutau Muhammed Gbadamosi Ajagungbade I Esuwoye II, the Olofa of Offa, at his private residence.

The encounter was nothing short of historic. With the dignity of a statesman and the warmth of a host deeply rooted in tradition, President Mahama—himself the Aare Atolase of Offa—welcomed Kabiyesi with joy, affirming his enduring love for Offa Kingdom. He further pledged to renew his cherished chieftaincy title in Offa soon. The Olofa, in turn, expressed gratitude for the hospitality and extended an open invitation to receive His Excellency in Offa, Kwara State.

But beyond the courtesies, the evening grew into a grand celebration of Yoruba pride and unity. The Olofa was not alone—he was flanked by an impressive assembly of Yoruba royalty, chiefs, and eminent personalities drawn from both Ghana and Nigeria.

Among those present were:

HRM Oba Saheed Ademola Kusenla III, Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom

HRM Oba Josiah Olanrewaju Ilemobade Aina Kuyamiku, Oloto of Awori Kingdom

HRM Oba Moshood Olawale Olaleke II, Afaaji of Faji

HRM Oba (Dr.) Samuel Olumide Adeoye (JP), Molokun of Atijere Kingdom

Hon. Suleiman Olatunji, Chairman Offa Local Government

Hon. Abdulwahab Femi Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Political Affairs

The delegation was further enriched by Yoruba sons and daughters making waves in Ghana, including Prof. Jeleel Ojuade, Alhaji Babatunde Azeez, Chief Ibrahim Owolabi, Chief Salisu Elegushi, Chief Ganiyu Bakare, and many others.

For observers, this was more than a meeting of dignitaries—it was a moment where tradition embraced diplomacy, and culture echoed across borders. The gathering became a symbol of how Yoruba heritage continues to thrive wherever its people are found, uniting communities, inspiring pride, and strengthening bonds of kinship and leadership.

In the words of many who attended, the night in Accra will be remembered not just as a royal courtesy call, but as a living testimony that Yoruba culture and royalty remain timeless and unshakable—no matter where in the world they gather.
